Like you cared.
In the past year I have--
Gotten married
Honeymooned
Presented research at a conference
Wrote my thesis
Visited my inlaws (how weird is that??[having inlaws, that is. I'M MARRIED NOW, and I love my inlaws])
Edited my thesis
Begged to be a TA
Won Outstanding TA of the Year, at both the department level and the college level
Gained too much weight
Admitted to myself and the world that I'm actually not all that into skiing
Said goodbye to too many good friends (damn you, Houston!)
Watched a lot of TV
Have not read enough books
Became a yelper?
Edited my thesis
Taught 47 students how to field map
Halfheartedly tried to to stop a structure being built on campus
Bought tickets to Europe on a whim
Defended my thesis
Graduated (well, walked)
Changed my last name on nearly everything
Applied for a half-dozen jobs (and counting)
Continued to edit my thesis
Got bangs
It's been a productive year.
You're probably wondering why I decided to come back after such a long absense. Well, to tell you the truth, I don't know. Part of me wants to write. Part of me only writes when I'm bored. I don't have a lot to say, but I love to read, so sometimes I feel like I should be doing the other half as well. We'll see what comes of this.
Right this second I'm sitting at my desk at school, the desk that I'll be kicked out of any day now because technically I graduated and I don't belong here anymore, and I'm applying to jobs. There are lots of jobs all over the country that I am mostly (if not fully!) qualified for. Plans fell through on Tommy's end, so now we're just getting ready to move on a moment's notice as long as I get a job. For once, I'm really really excited to be facing the unknown.

December 7, 2011
I have had this page open all day and now I'm about to pack up and I still haven't written anything.
I was once again inspired by a blog, this time by a girl who does nothing special except write really really well--check her out here. I followed a link to her blog from facebook and apparently so did the rest of the world because her post today was about how she suddenly became viral. Ha. That's not the point. The point is that she's an excellent observational writer--she's witty and topical! I can only hope to be like her. So when I got to school today I opened up blogger and thought, I'm going to write like she would. I spent the day thinking of things to write about, and came up with a list (though short). Topics such as "Why do people spend so much money on a mac and then don't learn all the cool stuff that goes with it like two finger scrolling?!?" or "That nasty wart/blister on my heel" or "How I can't make fun of students on facebook anymore because they've all added me as a friend" or "That stupid hypocritical bitch on facebook that I drives me crazy but I wouldn't delete her but then I finally did". You get it. My life revolves around (not "centers around" that is just plain wrong and stupid! another post I wanted to write) facebook. And mundane shit that no one cares about. And complaining. Again with the complaining. I promise I really am a happy person who is very lucky to have the life I lead!
So, despite my best efforts to observe something and then write about it witty-ly on the interwebz in the hopes that one day too my blog will go viral (even though I actually don't really want that), I came to the conclusion that maybe today is not the day. And I can't force creativity or inspiration.
Therefore, in order to not call the day a complete failure, I decided to document something that I am grateful for.
I am grateful for the health and safety of those I love dearly. Tommy's grandfather has taken a turn for the worse and it just made me realize that I am really lucky that my friends and family are (relatively) ok. Everyone is leading a productive life. Few are unemployed, and those who are have parents willing to take them in until things get better. With the exception of Grandpa Waner, everyone is in good health.
So I am thankful that all I have to complain about is this stupid wart/blister that is making it impossible to train for the marathon. Damn you, universe! Just kidding.
I'm heading home now, Tommy is bugging me on skype. It's the inter mural dodge ball championships tonight. GO DONKEYS GO!

Total ripoff
So...you know how a few blog posts ago I was lamenting the fact that I really wanted a cute artsy inspirational blog and just couldn't get it? You know how I said that the only reason why I was starting a blog was because I was inspired by some cute artsy ones? Well, I'm gonna start having one of those blogs god damnit! And I'm totally ripping off this girl's: A Little Diggity by Steph Turmelle. It's on blogspot, you can find it if you want. I'm not linking to it because the only reason why I know about it is because we did one group project together and she always links to it in her gchat profile and yeah, I'm sort of a stalker that way. Sort of. And getting back to the not linking to it portion--I once heard that if you link to someone else's blog they are notified. And then she would know I'm a creepy blog stalker. In summation: I'm all about giving credit where credit is due, but not to the point that some random girl in my English summer class thinks I'm stalking her. Even though I am. Well, just her cool blog.
ANYWAYS
If you didn't go in search of her blog, the gist of it is this: she created a list of things she wants to do in her life and then she's doing them. Anything from making good soup to learning how to snowboard. Though this is the main purpose of her blog, it won't be for mine. I just think that there is something lathargic about checking things off of your bucket list.
Now, I'm supposed to be doing Matlab, but I'm taking a *quick* break so I'm not actually going to write out a whole list, just two things to get started:
#1. Write (and frequently add-to) a list of things I want to do in my life
#2. Document things I'm greatful for (also ongoing) as I'm really good at complaing about my pretty cool life.

Woe is me....
You know, I started this blog because I was inspired.
Inspired by all those artsy-type blogs that have cool/random/quirky pictures from the web or the author's own collection. That contain their thoughts, only in a poetic variety. Have unique and funky backgrounds. In a word, artsy.
So, I thought to myself. I'll start myself a blog. I have things to say and show the world. I can be artsy. But no, my blog sucks. I guess I don't mind it too too much, but it still lacks that "thing" that will make people want to read it after they stumble upon it.
Boo, scientist through and through.

1 day. 3 hours. 12 minutes.
...until he gets here. And it couldn't be going by any slower. I guess it's time to make a list of things I need to do, because it seems that whenever I make a list of things to do, I don't EVER have enough time to do them all. Perhaps it will help make time fly...

Once again, avoiding necessary engagements.
UPDATE: constantly being distracted by this blog . In part because I'm reading his book (Hurricanes: Their Nature and Impact on Society) for this paper, in fact, it's right in front of me. In part because his blog offers insightful (and interesting) commentary on the subject (hurricanes and warm[ing?] SSTs). In part because I'm always up for distractions. CHECK IT OUT!
Hello blogspot.
Guess who has to write a paper?

Let me make one thing VERY clear
This is a public blog. I shutter to think that I am now in fact a "blogger" by choice. I have made fun of everyone that has ever decided to blog about their lives (blogging about other stuff...say the media is completely different). But here I am. After bitching and moaning in my previous required blog, I have started a new one. And so far, I have updated it relatively frequently.
But let me make one the VERY clear:
I am not here to advertise my life. I know that it's public, but mostly because I'm always on the internet, and I'm more inclined to update a blog than a journal. Also, I guess there's a teeny tiny part of me that wants to see if anyone will ever actually read this. Welcome to being human during the peak of web 2.0, Kelly. But I will, by absolutely no means tell people to read my blog. So if you're reading this, congrats. You found me. And to everyone else who will never read this, good.
